Great Hope Foundation was honored to host representatives from Segal Family Foundation, Karimjee Foundation, and The Peter Cundill Foundation for a special visit to Buyuni Secondary School in Ilala Municipality. The purpose of the visit was to witness first-hand the creativity, innovation, and transformative impact of UWEZO AWARD projects, designed and implemented by students themselves.
From the moment the guests arrived, the energy of the students was evident. They proudly presented their Community Change Projects—initiatives that not only address real challenges within the school environment but also build essential life skills such as leadership, confidence, teamwork, and entrepreneurship. These projects are more than school activities; they are platforms where students learn to believe in themselves, take responsibility, and become active contributors to society.
Teachers at Buyuni Secondary also shared how the UWEZO AWARD has transformed their role. Beyond classroom teaching, they now act as mentors and collaborators, walking alongside students as they design and implement their projects. This has fostered stronger teacher–student relationships, enhanced teamwork, and opened new avenues for practical learning. For many teachers, UWEZO AWARD is a reminder that education goes beyond exams—it is about preparing young people for life.
The visiting foundations were deeply inspired by what they saw. They witnessed how small ideas, when supported with courage and guidance, can blossom into sustainable solutions. The repaired school facilities, environmental initiatives, and social awareness campaigns led by students are clear evidence of the program’s impact. More importantly, they highlight the potential of Tanzanian youth to rise as changemakers when given the right platform.
Great Hope Foundation remains committed to scaling such opportunities through UWEZO PROGRAM, ensuring that millions of students across Tanzania benefit from this model of challenge-based learning. With the continued support of partners like Segal Family Foundation, Karimjee Foundation, and The Peter Cundill Foundation, the dream of raising a generation of confident, skilled, and responsible leaders is becoming a reality.
As the sun set on this remarkable day, one message was clear: when young people are empowered, they do not just participate in change—they lead it.
