Over a decade Great Hope Foundation has been championing appropriate market skills development to young people, through extra curriculum activities. Great Hope Foundation has been observing remarkable results, when extra curriculum activities were well packaged through challenge based learning and gamification through competition.
A strong example of the transformative power of extracurricular learning is the UWEZO PROGRAM. Implemented in Tanzanian secondary schools, UWEZO PROGRAM focuses on entrepreneurship, innovation, and practical problem-solving as extracurricular learning experiences.
Extracurricular activities play a vital role in the holistic development of learners by complementing academic instruction with practical, social, and emotional learning experiences. While classroom learning focuses largely on cognitive development and subject mastery, extracurricular activities nurture essential life skills such as leadership, teamwork, creativity, discipline, and resilience. In today's rapidly changing world, education systems that intentionally integrate extracurricular programs are better positioned to prepare young people for real-life challenges and opportunities.
At the heart of the UWEZO PROGRAM is a powerful belief: every young person has untapped potential. With the right exposure, mentorship, and opportunity, students can discover their abilities, sharpen their ideas, and rise with confidence to shape their future—and the future of Tanzania.

What is happening in UWEZO PROGRAM 2026?
UWEZO PROGRAM – Dar es Salaam & Pwani Region
For 150 selected secondary schools in Dar es Salaam and the Pwani (Coastal) Region, participation in the UWEZO PROGRAM is completely FREE.
Students in these schools experience a rich and exciting blend of UWEZO initiatives, including:
- UWEZO AWARD – celebrating innovation, creativity, and excellence
- UWEZO BONANZA – igniting entrepreneurial thinking through competition and fun
- UWEZO KINARA – recognizing standout student achievers and leaders
- UWEZO CLUB – nurturing teamwork, leadership, and continuous learning within schools
This pathway offers students a full UWEZO experience, equipping them with life skills, confidence, and a strong sense of purpose.
