My name is Nancy Faustine from Dar es Salaam. I am one of the beneficiaries of the UWEZO AWARD. I competed for these awards twice when I was in Zanaki Secondary. The first time was in 2018 when I was in form 5, and the second time was in 2019 when I was in form 6, and this time I was the project leader at our school. In 2018, we managed to be the 1st winners, and in 2019, we managed to be the second winners.

Personally, “UWEZO AWARD” has helped me learn many things that I still benefit from. Firstly, it has given me courage and leadership skills that have helped me to establish my own NGO institution for girls called “BINTI HODARI”. Binti Hodari deals with empowering young girls aged 7 to 17 to solve challenges that hinder them from reaching their dreams. Also, it has the mission of acknowledging girls who perform wondersome projects in solving challenges occurring in their localities, We acknowledge them with prizes, recognition, and connections.

I have also been able to see the importance of volunteering, especially for my community around me. Third is to meet people who have made a big difference in my life, some of them were my fellow students from participating schools, and others were coordinators from Great Hope Foundation. Meeting them during projects and events became the beginning of more meetings.

Last but not least, is to develop my singing talent. In 2019, I managed to compose a song related to the UWEZO AWARD, and I got a scholarship to record it, and it became my first song to record.

I am very grateful to the organizers of UWEZO AWARD for allowing students to show what they have and to build their ability to solve their challenges.
