SYED HASSAN AKBAR – UWEZO PROGRAM ALUMNI

My name is Syed Hassan Akbar, and I am a Form 5 student specializing in Economics, Commerce, and Accounts (ECA) at Waliul Asr Boys Seminary in Kisarawe, Pwani. My transformative journey began with the UWEZO AWARD in 2021.

As a newcomer to the UWEZO CLUB, I took on the role of project manager, unaware of how deeply this experience would shape my aspirations. I progressed to vice president and ultimately president of the club, where our teamwork led us to earn a prestigious golden award, securing 2nd place nationally among hundreds of schools.

The achievements of my peers sparked my curiosity and drive for innovation. I immersed myself in the dynamics of team building, leadership, and project management, honing my skills through planning, proposal writing, budgeting, and media relations while leading various charity and social change initiatives.

The 2021 UWEZO AWARD Ceremony was a pivotal moment, introducing me to Hon. Nickson Simon John (Nikkwapili), the then District Commissioner of Kisarawe. This connection fueled my passion for technology, prompting me to explore programming and digital marketing, which opened doors to entrepreneurial ventures.

After graduation, I collaborated with Hon. Nikkwapili on an agricultural software project aimed at empowering young farmers with modern knowledge through online courses. Inspired by UWEZO’s mission, I initiated an educational technology project designed to enhance student performance nationwide, set to launch by the end of 2025. Additionally, I founded Afritech Creations, a digital marketing agency that has helped over 40 companies improve their online presence.

Committed to social service, I joined the Youth Investors Association (YIA), where I’ve impacted over 5,000 youth through initiatives in entrepreneurship, talent development, and personal finance. As Head of Entrepreneurship and Innovations, I lead activities that promote youth entrepreneurship and creativity.

My journey from the UWEZO AWARD to entrepreneurial leadership illustrates the profound impact of youth empowerment. Every endeavor — whether at YIA, Afritech Creations, or in my daily life — reflects the spirit of UWEZO (Chukua Hatua, Onesha Uwezo), driving me toward a vision of national and global influence through entrepreneurship and innovative technology.
